Works with Linux April 15, 2009 NotSyncing (Michigan, USA) 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
I haven't had this product very long, but I wanted to let potential buyers know that it *does* work with Linux. I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 and I just plugged it in and it worked. The USB subsystem recognized it immediately and I was using it within a couple minutes of taking it out of the box.
The keyboard itself and the mouse are quite nice. I have no complaints. That said, this keyboard is probably not for everybody. If you use a keyboard for a living, like I do, you tend to be very particular about what you like and don't. For me, this works. Others - particularly those who don't like laptop keyboards or flat (almost no contour), low-profile keys - may not care for it.
The mouse is perfect in its simplicity and has a nice heavy feel to it.
One very small annoyance: if you use the front USB slot on your computer - or any slot where the USB portion of the device is in view - the light may bother you. It's very bright and very blue - and it's on whenever you type or move the mouse. Thus, depending on what you're doing, it can be effectively blinking and quite distracting.
YOU WILL LOVE THIS! Best Keyboard Ever!!! April 28, 2009 DoNothingAndRestAfter (Superstition Mountains, Arizona) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
The keyboard is super thin and sleek. I type A LOT! and the thinner the keyboard the better because I type fast and I don't need deep keys to hinder the movement of my fingers. And this keyboard is QUIET! The keys are soft sounding and soft to the touch, yet you can feel the depth of the shallow keys as you type so don't interpret my description that it's too soft.
The mouse buttons are loud though. You can really hear the click--it's a firm click
I love the fact that it is truly wireless--just the USB connector on the front of my computer (you can put it in back too) and it works with my desk cabinet door closed too. Some wireless keyboard/mouse use a wired USB connector--not truly wireless.
You do not need to install any software because once you plug-in the USB, the keyboard/mouse will install themselves, but do use the disk to install the the two features it provides, which are battery monitors for the keyboard and mouse. Two tiny icons will show up on your notification taskbar (in the lower right corner by the clock and date) which will monitor the battery lives of your keyboard and mouse--and the install from the disk takes literally about 5 seconds, so it's not downloading some memory-eating software.
My only complaint was the firm/loud-ish clicking mouse, but everything else is a perfect 10! I think everyone will be quite pleased with this set. They keyboard is just awesome--Thin, Sleek, Chic, Quiet, Comfortable! Superb design HP! I will want this keyboard forever!
Great product! July 13, 2009 Jeremy D. Marcum (Indianapolis, IN) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I built an in-will entertainment center, complete with a PC and needed something that would work 10-15 feet away. I bought a mid-level Logitech wireless unit and it turned out to be a real POS. I was very disappointed. I found this unit and it works perfect. No signal loss, delays, etc.. everything works prefect. The battery life is decent and the modern design looks great on my living room coffee table. I highly recommend this unit to anyone who needs something with great wireless range.
An elegant keyboard July 25, 2009 Steve 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I got this to use on my hdtv computer - and found that it was so slick that didn't want to use my standard keyboards anymore. I put a 1" snip of black electrical tape over 2/3 of the LED window on the usb receiver so that the light doesn't distract me. One needs to get used to a the location of the 'Insert' button is on the top row of keys.
Overall it's an elegant keyboard:
Keys: quiet, sensitive and rugged enough - although I'd keep it away from the 3-yr old. Easy to get used to typing on it.
Body: heavy enough to stay-put and give it a solid feel.
Size: the edges are just big enough to give you something to hold on to while picking it up or balancing it on your lap. razor thin profile ;)
Oh - I got the mouse combo - the mouse is just fine, with one outstanding feature: an on/off switch on the bottom which you can use to conserve the battery while not in use (*turns off the lazer) ....cool
have fun!
hp wireless keyboard and mouse June 22, 2009 Charley (Florida) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this product because of the Amazon reviews that said the keyboard was very low profile, the keys were not raised up like a lot of keyboards, almost flat, you can't buy this keyboard in stores, I took a chance and ordered it because of the reviews. I love Amazon reviews because they tell you the good and the bad that you might not know just looking at the product in a store. The reviews for this product mentioned the flashing blue light where USB is plugged into the laptop, if the light was right in front of my face it would really get on my nerves but its off to the side so I don't notice it that much. The keyboard and mouse are the best I've used and well worth the money, I dislike egromomic keyboards, this one is small, thin and flat, the mouse is the right size (I have smaller hands), the keys don't make noise when you press them, very smooth typing, I can type really fast on this keyboard. I thought I might miss a light for caps lock but I don't. The delete key is very large which I also like a lot. I have had this product about three weeks, didn't use the disc to install it, just plugged it into USB port. Very pleased I ordered it.
